We are a non-profit voluntary organisation and currently do not receive any funding. We would like to grow our community network and offer a service to the local people of Burngreave. We will offer advice and signposting for people having difficulty with housing and benefits, following the closure of Spital Hill Citizens Advice centre.
We will offer health advice around prevention and management of Type 2 diabetes, advice for preparing healthy and balanced meals, a women’s exercise and running group and offering DIY sessions and promoting women’s creative activities. We will continue our local environmental work and litter picking and encourage the local community to participate in this as we already have in recent weeks.
We are currently using a room in Abbeyfield House to run this group however we need to be based in Burgreave to directly access the people in this community. Burngreave is a beautiful and diverse area in Sheffield but it is also one of the most economically and health deprived.
Our groups will promote healthy eating, exercise, tailored to the needs of the local community that welcomes everyone living in the area. Once we are running and engaging with the local community our work will positively impact the health outcomes of people in the community but we must be based physically in the community to achieve this.
Burngreave has the lowest proportion of homeowners in Sheffield. Burngreave is also the worst area for flytipping In Sheffield Burngreave is the worst Sheffield area for y pping as council acts to catch culprits (thestar.co.uk)Costing the council huge amounts. We will involve, engage and educate the local community to pick litter and provide information on appropriate waste disposal and signpost those who do not have the resources to appropriate support. This will save the council money and reduce litter picking and fly tipping in the local area.
We already have a huge amount of photos as evidence of the work we have done since 2021 in conjunction with the group Pitsmoor Pickers who operate in the wider Pitsmoor and Burngreave area.We need a zero cost space at Vestry Hall to run groups and drop in and as a base to run fundraising activities. Currently we cannot afford the cost of the rooms at Vestry Hall and unable to develop our organisation beyond what we have currently. We also need a space to store all our litter picking equipment.
